Are you writing content that matches your company’s or client’s core values? When you write
for your company’s newsletter or create a client’s marketing campaign the words you use can
reflect unconscious personal biases. Join AMA Alaska Chapter and keynote speaker Kimberly
Waller, Founder and CEO of the Women’s Power League of Alaska, as she takes a “delightfully
uncomfortable” look at writing communication through a lens of inclusion and guides us
through examples of what can go wrong and how to be aware of exclusionary and prejudicial
language.
Who should attend: Any professional communicator or marketer whose job description includes
strategizing and writing on behalf of their employer or client.
Kimberly Y. Waller, Founder/CEO Women’s Power League of Alaska, is an award-winning on-air
radio host and producer and was one of the pioneering DJ’s at Anchorage’s KFAT 92.9, Alaska’s
first Hip-Hop/Rythmic station. She helped propel the station to the number one spot during her
tenure as morning co-host and mid-day host, which led her to 103.9 The Beat in Philadelphia,
catapulting her from Market 172 to the very large Market 6. She was then recruited by MTV
Radio as an on-air host, writer and producer, also allowing her to serve as MTV Radio’s on-
location correspondent for key events such as The MTV Video Music Awards, The Grammy
Awards, MTV’s Total Request Live New Year’s Eve Bash, VH1 Divas, and more. She later joined
the on-air team at Power 105.1 New York where she launched and hosted the stations’s public
affairs show “Power on the Block”, receiving local recognition and a national Gracie Award for
her role as Host/Producer in the public affairs category.
Waller received her B.A. in Mass Media from New York University, where she was awarded the
Stenbeck Scholarship and recipient of the Founders Day Award for academic achievement. She
also holds an A.L.M. in Journalism from Harvard University.
Kim recently returned to Alaska with her family to launch a non-profit.
